‘How to Do Things With Dreams” (Sharon Sliwinski – Seminar 2)
Our third project seminar of term will be led by Professor Sharon Sliwinski (Western University), funder of the Museum of Dreams. Here is the abstract of Sharon’s talk:
“Using one of Freud’s patients as an exemplar, this talk will explore how dream-life can be understood as a vital form of civil resistance — in this case, resistance to sexual invasion. Dreaming is understood here as a special kind of psychological labour can help transfigure the force of a violent reality. And when allied with dialogue, this transformative thought can create new ways of ordering experience and modes of relating, which is significant both for the individual and our shared social worlds. I will also discuss The Museum of Dreams, a collaborative project that aims to open up a new, public forum to explore the politics of reverie.”
